Tea and HealthIs Your Tea Organic? Why it is Important. What is organic and why is it better for your health? The bottom line is the new wave of going “organic” is better for the environment and it is better for our bodies. The term “organic” essentially is a natural alternative to farming as opposed to employing methods of using chemicals to destroy pests in crops. The quick and easy reasons for going “organic” are as follows: no synthetic pesticides, no herbicides, no preservatives, and no additives are part of the organic world because harm our bodies is proven to be done with these toxic chemicals. Also, when one is farming organically there is usually less soil erosion, less groundwater pollution, and improved farm biodiversity (different types of crops grown at the same time that benefit the soil in different ways). Hence, the environment is less destroyed as a result of better farming practices and you have an increase in soil nutritional value. Healthy soil, equals healthy plants, equals healthy humans!!! To give you a little lesson on conventional farming, it was started in the 1940’s and radically changed the way North America produced agricultural goods as pests and weeds were virtually eradicated. As a result, crops soared significantly because of this new (horrible) breakthrough. Eventually however, both insects and weeds developed resistance to the chemicals. As a result more and more powerful toxic pesticides were needed to get rid of pests(not good). As the pesticides that are sprayed on our food get stronger the products literally become laced with poison that we are ingesting from everyday produce on almost every grocery store shelf. If soil erosion is evident in the environment due to the conventional way of farming than I’m sure there is another form of erosion done to our bodies! According to a study done by the Better Living Through Chemistry, scientists found that breast cancer is associated with pesticide residue. Since breast cancer is a major killer of women, just following some simple steps of eating organically grown products could reduce this statistic. Also, as a bonus, organic foods have higher levels of nutrients and antioxidants than non-organic foods. The nutrients that are most affected from this new age of farming with pesticides are vitamin C, beta carotene and B vitamins. Vitamin C has been documented to prevent and treat cancers, hence loss of these important vitamins in our foods is detrimental. So why is it important to drink organic tea? Well, for one, most tea does not come from the US, but from China and other parts of the world. In order to know for certain that your tea does not have loads of dangerous chemicals from not only pesticides, but from the environment you should always drink certified organic tea. If it is not certified organic from an accredited agency, almost any poison that you can imaging may be in your tea from the agriculture and production of the tea. This is very scary when you really take time to think about it! Buying tea that is certified organic is one way to feel comforted that something you are putting into your body that you consider a healthy product, is actually doing some good to your body instead of just the opposite. One of the most esteemed certifying agencies in the world is Quality Assurance International, which is who The Wu-Yi Tea Company uses as it’s certifying agency. You can feel secure in the fact that The Wu-Yi Tea Company is owned by an organic health company , Global Organix, Inc. that only uses the finest organic products in the world. So with all that has been said about choices between organic vs. non-organic, we now know to choose a cup of “certified organic” Wu-Yi Tea and hope you will too!Enjoy! |
